Web Developer

Working on www.FriendsReunited.co.uk the salary banding is £30-40k, based in London.

Your role would be to develop and enhance new and current systems. Not only will you be designing the web site and supporting systems, you will also be involved in database design and back-office systems integration. You will be able to take joint ownership of all technical aspects of the friendsreunited.co.uk website with the other developers in the team. You will liaise with customer service, hardware support, graphic design and developers of other sites to generate and implement ideas.

In order to be successful you must be able to demonstrate a full understanding of the relevant technologies and have experience in their implementation in high-volume, high-availability environments. The key technological skills include:

Product & Marketing Executive


Working to promote www.GenesReunited.co.uk the salary banding is £22-24k and this role is based in London.

This role is to support the Genes Reunited Product team by working on all aspects of product development and marketing the Genes Reunited and 1901 census sites.  This is a broad role and involves working closely together with a variety of skill-sets, from coders and designers to customer services. 

The key responsibilities of the role include;

  • Sourcing and creating editorial and promotional content for the website.
  • Managing our social media strategy
  • Planning, creating and running of new email marketing campaigns.
  • Reviewing new features prior to launch.
  • Understanding marketing campaigns and briefing new initiatives to Customer Services, PR, Technical, Design and Analytical teams.
  • Collating analysis of campaigns and providing data to the Product Manager.
  • Assisting with market research projects to assess demand, brand positioning and awareness.


You should be educated to degree level and have a 2.1 in English/Marketing or a relevant discipline.  You should have experience in online/direct marketing or be a highly capable graduate with relevant work experience.  You should have excellent attention to detail and commitment to delivering the best online customer experience. 
An Interest in family or social history is advantageous, as is and understanding of Search Engine marketing and Search Engine Optimisation.  Familiarity and writing editorial copy is also useful.

Marketing and PR Executive


Working on www.GenesReunited.co.uk the salary banding is £22-24k and this role is based in London.

A new role has arisen for a Marketing & PR Executive primarily focused on introducing and implementing offline marketing activities including PR for the Genes Reunited brand, as well as providing PR support to the Friends Reunited and Friends Reunited Dating brands. This is a 6 month contract initially.

Responsibilities include:

  • Working with our agency and in-house team to develop PR campaigns, researching angles and hooks for PR stories and sourcing case studies and responding to media requests for family history record images, stories and interviews
  • Liaising with organisers of events, lectures, classes, etc. in the UK and providing them with promotional literature
  • Organising Genes Reunited’s presence at events and representing the company at family history shows
  • Briefing design agencies on marketing collateral
  • Creating PowerPoint presentations for family history talks
  • Press office support
  • Contributing to and helping to implement our social media strategy
  • Marketing administrative tasks including generating purchase orders, maintaining spreadsheets and compiling monthly reports


You will be degree educated, possibly in Marketing or History, with at least 12 months’ experience working in a busy marketing support role. Well organised, with excellent time management skills, you’ll be adept at juggling a wide variety of tasks and prioritising. Excellent written and oral communication skills are a prerequisite, as is strong attention to detail. You are computer literate, confident with Microsoft Office (Word, Powerpoint, Excel and Outlook) and with using social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter and Friends Reunited. An interest in family or social history is advantageous.

 

Senior Network Engineer and Engineering Team Leader


A technical leadership role responsible for the day to day management of a small team of IT professionals and for our core network including our internal Infrastructure, Managed Hosted Clients’ Infrastructures, and Data Centres. The salary banding for this role is £35-40k and you will be based in Dundee.

Your key responsbilities include;

  • Ensure the optimal operation of ISP Core Network through
    • Good understanding on monitoring systems and SNMP protocol
    • Gather symptom
    • Isolate fault
    • Rectify fault
  • Responsible for mentoring, coaching, appraising and development of the team members, including assigning individual KPIs.
  • Ensuring that all work planned in the Data Centre is authorised, planned, quality checked and documented for ownership, accountability and traceability.
  • Overseeing and planning regular maintenance and testing in the Data centre, in conjunction with 3rd party maintainers.
  • Ensuring that the Infrastructure Team has a set of procedures in place to deal with Incidents, Problem Management and Configuration Management.
  • Ensuring that the Infrastructure Team has systems in place to monitor the health of all our networks.
  • Ensuring that an appropriate set of metrics are defined, agreed and regularly published in order to demonstrate the quality of our networks and systems in terms of availability, traffic, security, and incident management.


You must have thorough knowledge of new RFCs and RIPE policies and will propose improvements to the existing brightsolid infrastructure. In order to be succesful you should be Degree qualified in a relevant discipline or appropriate Industry qualifications with strong leadership experience, good negotiating skills, commercial awarness and be customer focused with experience in a client facing environment.

Web Developer - www.ScotlandsPeople.gov.uk

A Web Application Developer required to be involved in the development of our website, working with a senior developer this role may be suitable for a graduate with some development experience. The salary banding for this role is £18-£25k and it is based in Dundee.

We are looking for a Web Application Developer to develop and enhance new and current systems including customer experience, website operation, supporting systems and integration with back-office. You will take front-line ownership of all technical aspects of the scotlandspeople.gov.uk web site. You will be liaising with customer service, hardware support, graphic design and developers of other websites within the brightsolid online publishing group.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate an understanding and experience of using the relevant technologies;

  • ASP.NET/C#
  • Windows IIS and SMTP administration and application tuning
  • MySQL database design, administration and application tuning.
  • Windows and Linux systems administration/scripting
  • HTML/CSS
  • Javascript / jQuery
  • Linux Apache configuration and tuning

Applicants should be pro-active, passionate about the internet and new technology and keen to take responsibility for the full-delivery of any assign functionality and/or task. An enthusiastic interest in the complete application stack from user interface to OS and database is needed and an Interest in family or social history is advantageous.

 

British Library Product Executive

This is an exciting opportunity to be involved in the development of a new product within the online publishing family of brands. The role can be based in either London or Dundee dependant on the candidate.

 

Marketing Assistant

A Marketing Assistant role to focus on understanding the reasons that customers would be interested in brightsolid offerings and managing our exisitng communications plan based in Dundee.  Salary £18-£22k depending on experience.

Responsibilities include:

  • Own and make updates to the Company website.
  • Co-ordinate sales campaigns, including email campaigns and creation of supporting collateral.
  • Co-ordinate attendance at Tradeshows.
  • Manage our customer database and co-ordinate PR activities.
