'Short Term Focus, Long Term View' sums up our attitude to the world around us - short term focus on commercial success only works when combined with the long term view that this must be sustainable.
We take our environmental responsibilities very seriously. We are ISO14001 certified, which is the standard that guides us in minimising how our operations affect the environment. A core strength in this area is how we run our data centres. Utilising Scotland’s naturally cool climate, fresh air plays a major part in our cooling process. Hot and cold aisles within the centre ensure we only cool air that needs it. Our Novec1230 fire suppression system is one of the first of its type in the UK and is the most environmentally friendly system available. Our investment in virtualisation and shared storage reduces our carbon footprint, at the same time as providing improved services to our customers.
Our work often involves us partnering globally with organisations, and it is important to us that we work with people who share the same values we do. We are proud to be partnering with Digital Divide Data in our digitisation project with the British Library. Digital Divide Data creates jobs for talented youth in developing countries by delivering high-quality content business process outsourcing services to clients globally.
We look to think outside our day-to-day business and use our skills to help the community we live in wherever we can. Our online publishing business creates websites where people can go to connect people and places through memories. We have been proud to use these capabilities to support missingpeople.org.uk. The online technology business uses its expertise to help local charities and not-for-profit organisations, including Cash For Kids.
We also support our team members who are themselves supporting the local community and fundraising - this year we have funded a number of events including quizzes, “It’s a Knockout”, yomps and races, with all money raised matched by the company and donated towards charities selected by our staff.
