brightsolid host a series of events for Dundee Science Festival

This November we will be opening our doors and experts to the public over two days as part of the Dundee Science Festival. The free events give an opportunity to see how, yet again, Dundee leads the way in new areas of global science and technology.

Interest in family history is growing at a dramatic pace as the internet is opening up the hobby to a much broader and worldwide audience. Connecting with our past gives us a reference point, an understanding of why we are where we are and who we are. As part of the Dundee Science Festival experts from brightsolid online publishing will offer help, advice and 1-to-1 support to people who are looking to find out more about their family history. Attendees at this event will also get the chance to have a sneak preview of the British Newspaper Archive website. The event on Sunday the 6th of November is free to attend and runs from 11.30am to 5pm, with talks taking place hourly from 12-4pm. You don't need to book a place, so you can just turn up on the day.

Meanwhile, brightsolid's brand new data centre will be opening its doors to the public on Thursday 3rd November, offering advice to those interested in pursuing a career inĀ IT. 'The science behind the internet' tours will be of interest to school, college or University students seeking a real-life insight into IT careers. Students are invited to visit brightsolid and learn about the challenges of running online systems, using the website for the 2011 Census in Scotland as an example. Meeting the brightsolid team, students will be given practical advice, tips and real-life stories from some of the company's star players, highlighting the various career paths on offer. The event, to be held at brightsolid's headquarters at Gateway House, Technology Park, Dundee, is free of charge but must be booked in advance - contact Carrie Baird on 01382 429000.

Chris Van Der Kuyl, Chief Executive of brightsolid said, "brightsolid is delighted to be involved in this years Dundee Science Festival. As a company at the cutting edge of online innovation and science, it's a fantastic opportunity to give the wider community an insight into what we do and share some of our latest developments. Whether it's visiting our new state-of-the-art data centre at the Technology Park or taking part in our genealogy technology day at DC Thomson's in Meadowside, the public will get a chance to see how, yet again, Dundee leads the way in new areas of global science and technology."
