Just got dumped? Maybe its the clothes...

1 in 3 Brits will dump a badly dressed partner

Research released today shows that in the cutthroat world of dating, what you wear really makes a difference. 34% of the 1000 people surveyed by Friends Reunited Dating said that they would dump a partner who regularly turned up in wacky clothes, and more than one in ten said they'd refuse a second date if they didn't like what their date wore.

42% of respondents claimed to prefer a sense of individuality in their prospective partners, but 10% said that they couldn't let a bad outfit pass without comment - they'd have to tell their prospective partner not to wear it again.

And it seems like we're holding ourselves to the same high standards - 42% of the people surveyed admitted that they take two hours to get ready for a date, while a dedicated minority (2%) would take a whole day off work to prepare.

Rhoda Breakell, head of Friends Reunited Dating, says: "The pressure has never been so high to look good on a first date, but if you want to make the best possible first impression it's about more than just dressing up in the latest fashions. You need to show your date who you are and let them know that you're happy to be there with them."
