brightsolid’s customers come from the public and private sectors. However, on occasion, we become our own client.
Ventures is the division of brightsolid that invests in and implements new internet business opportunities.
For example, we partner with the General Register Office for Scotland on www.ScotlandsPeople.gov.uk. A pay-per-view e-commerce site, it allows customers to search and obtain genealogical information over the Internet. The site contains search facilities to access data for 50 million names with more than 30 million scanned images of the original paper records. Over three quarters of a million registered users search the site to access these records.
In 2007 brightsolid began a partnership with The National Archives to put the 1911 census for England and Wales online. The 1911 census records currently occupy two kilometres of shelving, with information relating to over 36 million people.
Most recently brightsolid acquired findmypast.com. A leading family history website, it dovetails perfectly with ScotlandsPeople to serve millions of family history enthusiasts worldwide. findmypast.com offers access to over 500 million records dating as far back as 1538. This allows family historians and novice genealogists to search for their ancestors among comprehensive collections of records. These include military records, census, migration, occupation directories, and current electoral roll data, as well as the original comprehensive birth, marriage and death records.
At brightsolid, when we talk experience, technical know-how and innovative thinking we practice what we preach.
