Brightsolid appoints new chief information officer

Brightsolid, the Scottish colocation and cloud solutions company, has appointed an interim chief information officer to lead an ongoing transformation of its technology and service delivery offerings.

Philip Large, who brings over 20 years of enterprise technology leadership experience to Brightsolid, will be responsible for the technical strategy and end-to-end design and delivery of the company’s technology-based services, working collaboratively with clients to meet their IT needs.

The appointment follows shortly after Brightsolid’s chief technology officer, Malcolm Dobson, announced plans to retire after more than 20 years of service. Philip will initially take on the new CIO position for three months, with the opportunity for it to become a permanent position.

His skillset within the managed services sector, global technology operations, service delivery, and digital transformation will support Brightsolid in an industry that is changing at an unprecedented pace. Philip and his team will work towards delivering client-focused and technology-based service improvements, including software defined approaches, hybrid cloud delivery, improved service automation, and more.

Philip has previously held key roles with respected organisations, including head of IT at multinational brewery and pub chain, BrewDog, and venue technology manager for the London 2012 Olympics, where he was responsible for all technology aspects of the Olympic torch relay. He was also global CIO for an oil and gas service organisation, leading numerous transformation projects, and founder of a successful virtual CIO consultancy, providing strategic advisory services focussed on business enablement through technology.

Brightsolid’s chief executive, Elaine Van Der Berg, said: “We continue to strengthen our solutions offering and have restructured our business to meet the evolving needs of clients as businesses increasingly shift towards cloud computing. Philip will take the lead on our technology focus, working to ensure we can deliver new infrastructure models supported by a strong technology roadmap to help clients make the best financial and operational decisions on cloud computing.”

Philip said: “Cloud computing is driving transformational change and for many, it can be a complex and challenging transition. Our focus will be to provide a consultative approach, delivering cost appropriate and future-proof cloud solutions at a much quicker rate for clients, ensuring they can rapidly realise the benefits of cloud.  The journey to the cloud is inevitable for all organisations, creating a significant opportunity for Brightsolid. By 2019, around 80% of IT budgets will be dedicated to cloud technology and we need to make sure we are in a strong position to maximise this opportunity. Our new strategy combined with a focus on technology improvement places us on a market-aligned, strategic footing, meaning we are in excellent shape to support clients on this critical journey.”
