The Challenge

Martin Currie, the active equity specialists based in Edinburgh, understood the financial and security benefits of adopting colocation as they already hosted their infrastructure in data centres in Leeds and Manchester.

They wanted to improve their ability to respond to their organisational requirements by moving to a location geographically closer to their own team. They also wanted to build a relationship with a responsive, culturally aligned, customer-focused partner.

The Solution

After a review of Scottish providers, Brightsolid were selected as Martin Currie’s new partner.  Brightsolid provided primary colocation services from our Dundee data centre and disaster recovery services from our Aberdeen data centre.

Brightsolid provided consultancy throughout the migration and supported Martin Currie as they executed the migration around business needs and the teams worked together to ensure minimal disruption to business operations.

Martin Currie also complemented their colocation service with a managed virtual machine service where Brightsolid undertook the monitoring and alerting of Martin Currie’s virtual machines.

Brightsolid also helped Martin Currie redesign their Wide Area Network, providing internet connectivity through the Brightsolid core network and managing the support of network equipment in many of Martin Currie’s global sites.

The Results

  • Martin Currie’s team now have access to their critical infrastructure within a 3-hour window, while retaining a 50km distance between their HQ, production and disaster recovery sites.
  • Brightsolid complemented Martin Currie’s own resources with access to local technical engineers with a deep understanding and ownership of the environment. This included access to Veeam Vanguard, Craig Dalrymple, who provided Martin Currie with specialist advice on their back up services.
  • The project delivered a markedly improved performance for Martin Currie’s end users, as network solutions significantly improved latency related issues.
  • Martin Currie also benefitted from tangible cost savings and reduced TCO as a result of the project.
